Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import EPUB files into Nemo Reader?

You can import EPUB files by tapping the "+" button in the library view and selecting files from your device. Nemo Reader supports both standard ZIP-based EPUBs and uncompressed EPUB directories. Files can be imported from iCloud Drive, local storage, or other file providers.

How do I set up the OpenAI API key for text-to-speech?

Navigate to Settings > API Configuration and enter your OpenAI API key. The app uses OpenAI's advanced TTS API to generate natural-sounding narration. Your API key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain and never leaves your device.

What TTS voices are available?

Nemo Reader supports all OpenAI TTS voices including Alloy, Echo, Fable, Onyx, Nova, and Shimmer. You can change the voice in Settings > TTS Configuration. Each voice has unique characteristics suitable for different types of content.

How does the auto-play feature work?

When auto-play is enabled, Nemo Reader automatically continues to the next paragraph after the current one finishes. The app pre-generates audio for upcoming paragraphs to ensure seamless playback without interruptions.

Can I use paragraph-level TTS?

Yes! Simply tap on any paragraph in the reading view to start TTS for that specific paragraph. The text will be highlighted while being read. You can also enable auto-play to continue through subsequent paragraphs automatically.

How is my reading position saved?

Nemo Reader automatically saves your reading position whenever you scroll, change chapters, or close a book. The position includes both the chapter index and your exact scroll position within that chapter, allowing you to resume exactly where you left off.

What happens to the TTS audio cache?

Generated audio is cached both in memory and on disk to improve performance and reduce API calls. The cache is automatically managed and cleared when necessary. You can manually clear the cache in Settings if needed.

Is there a sleep timer feature?

Yes, Nemo Reader includes a sleep timer that can be set to automatically stop playback after a specified duration. You can access the sleep timer from the audio controls toolbar while TTS is playing.
